Student officers, get creative and lead the way in your departments to celebrate World Radiography Day (WRD) on 8 November.
Each year, departments around the UK mark the event with a variety of activities. Poster displays, charity fundraisers and fancy dress events are just some of the ways radiographers have used promote the profession in their hospital.
Dedicated student promotional packs for the day are still available to order, these include posters, stickers, fluffy bugs and a guide with suggestions for activites you could organise.
Funding for additional resources can also be sought through your SoR regional officers and StudentTalk will be publishing your reports after the event, so tell us how it goes!
Departments planning fundraising activities are also encouraged to support a new initiative, launched by the SoR’s benevolent fund to coincide with WRD. The fund assists members, former members and their families in times of financial crisis and distress. It is challenging radiographers to find novel ideas to raise as much money as possible on WRD and in the following months.
The day has been coined Benevolent Fund Awareness Day (BAD) and is being promoted with the slogan: ‘Do not get SAD invest in BAD...secure the future. Every little helps, every little more helps dividends’.
“Last year, Andy Powell from Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle organised a coordinated set of rowing relay events at several hospital sites. This netted over £970 for the charity,” explained Sue Barlow, chair of the Benevolent Fund’s board of trustees.
“Through BAD we hope to raise valuable funds so that we can be sure we have the means to do the best for radiographers and their families,” said Sue.
