CPD audits are big news in radiography at the moment.
This month, the Health Professions Council (HPC) will be asking a percentage of those within the profession who are renewing their registration to send in a profile demonstrating how their CPD meets the HPC's standards.
The HPC defines CPD (continuing professional development) as 'a range of learning activities through which health professionals maintain and develop throughout their career to ensure that they retain their capacity to practice safely, effectively and legally within their evolving scope of practice.'
Put simply, the HPC believes that CPD audits give health professionals the chance to continue learning and developing throughout their careers so that they keep their skills and knowledge up to date and are able to work safely, legally and effectively.
Whilst students don't get audited until two years after they've qualified, Samantha Jewell, the SoR's professional officer for education and students is urging them to take note of the audit process that's in place, explaining: "The CPD audits have officially started, and whilst they may not be relevant to students now, they certainly will be in the future. Students should familiarise themselves with what's involved in the audit process now in order to be prepared when their turn eventually comes."
Visit the SoR website to find out more about the current audits and understand what they involve.
• Remember! The SoR's online tool CPD Now is available to all members at no extra charge. It enables you to plan, undertake and record your CPD activities and guides you through the process of writing a reflective evaluation of each activity you record to build up your portfolio.
