Young members hold the key to future union success, this is the message from radiographer Chaleigh Franklin reporting back from the TUC Young Members Forum held in March.
Chaleigh qualified as a radiographer a year ago. She is currently professional development officer on the South East Commitee but before that was a student rep on the South west commitee. She was one of four SoR delegates to TUC the event.
"People tend to get involved in their union as they get older but we also need to encourage younger members too as they are the future," she said.
"At the event I spoke to representatives from many other unions including teachers, transport workers and health workers at the conference. They were passionate about union involvement. Their stories proved to me that working conditions and professional issues can be improved through union involvement."
And her final message?... "It is easy to complain about radiography as a profession but to improve things you have to get involved and do something about it!"
